About John Wilson

John Wilson is the founder of Phoenix Fire Clay Studio and brings over 30 years of experience in the world of ceramics. Born and raised in Fredonia, Kansas, John earned a BFA in Ceramics from Emporia State University. His career began in education where he taught high school art & design, ceramics and computer graphics for 17 years in the greater Philadelphia area. Following this, he spent 15 years teaching ceramics at the Wayne Art Center as well as doing shows with the PA Guild of Craftsmen. However, his life-long dream of becoming a full-time studio potter led him to transition fully into the creative field.

John’s passion for teaching remains a cornerstone of his work. At Phoenix Fire Clay studio, he continues to share his extensive knowledge and expertise with students of all ages and skill levels. His artistic inspiration often draws from Greek antiquity and his rich Mexican heritage, infusing his work with a unique blend of historical and cultural elements.

John’s unwavering dedication to his fine art and his relentless pursuit of aesthetic excellence, both in his own work and in his teaching, have made him a cherished figure in the ceramics community. He continues to inspire and nurture the next generation of artists with his passion and expertise.
